Top Books for Early Intervention Speech Therapy

- Touch & Feel Books -

Touch and feel books are a fantastic way to get our young ones engaged with reading. Have the child touch and feel the different interactive spots on each page while modelling the descriptive word for each. Pair the describing words used in the story to similar objects that feel the same way in their environment.

- Bath Books -

Most bath books come with suction cup interactive pieces which make it super easy to pair the book with hide-and-seek activities or sensory bins! They are also durable books for young readers and you can match and find the same character suction piece with the character shown on the page.

- Repetitive Text Books -

Counting Character Books such as Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed; Five Little Sharks Swimming in the Sea; Five Little Pumpkins; etc. are great examples of repetitive text books. Repetitive text books allow the child to participate by anticipating and filling in the blank to the repetitive sentence used on each page. They are also easy to pair with play-props that the child can use to participate and keep engaged during the story!

- Sing-Song Books -

Sing-Song books are one of my favourite book genres to use in early intervention! So many of my little ones LOVE songs! Pairing the song with the same book is a great way to expose our little ones to early literacy and keep them engaged. It also makes pairing play-props and sensory bins super easy as well!

- Board Books -

Board books are a fun way to introduce early literacy skills in your early intervention. They are often short-stories and created for this age group. In this particular Board Book, talk about the pictures found on each page. Make the early symbolic sounds for each animal in the farm.
