Spring Themed Lesson Plan for Speech Therapy
***A fun session you can use this spring & summer season!***
Activity #1: Read the interactive story, "Little Bee Don't Sting Me" by Anna Dee SLP. Pair the story with a spring theme sensory bin or surprise eggs for expanding the story beyond the book. Hide the bees around the room and easily add some movement to your session. This is also a great resource for working on functional apraxia word shape targets!
Activity #2: Create a sensory bag or sensory bin using crinkled paper for grass or dirt, pretend stones, flower surprise containers (or any mini container) and different texted items. Hide spring themed mini objects inside your sensory bin or surprise containers to practice themed vocabulary, describing or requesting as you find the objects hidden inside!
Activity #3: Use spring mini objects, open-ended spring scene mats and add in some fun with a grass mat to create a fun and engaging activity for your students to participate in while practicing their goals! Practice the spatial concepts "on", "in", "under", "beside", "behind" as you place mini objects around the scenes. You can also practice following directions (e.g., put the lady bug on the rock). These open-ended scenes are from Words Matter SLP Spring Themed Unit on Teachers Pay Teachers.
Activity #4: Grab a spring theme game to end your session with! This "Speedy Beedy" game is a great game to adapt for all aged students and a variety of goals. You can place the flowers around the room, hide them in a sensory bin, or simply lay them out on the table. Have the child match the flower stack on his/her own card without getting those sneaky "bugs" that are trying to steal their nectar! Practice basic concepts (e.g., tall/short, on/off, first/last, before/after, same/different), requesting, speech sounds (e.g., S-blends: stick, stack, sneaky; L-blends: flower, blue, place; L: tall, look, like, little), core words (e.g., more, no, yes, bug, honey, on, same) and expanding utterances (e.g., I want the blue flower, stack the flowers).
