Halloween Themed Lesson Plan for Speech Therapy

Sharing an easy Halloween themed lesson plan you can use for speech-language therapy! It's perfect for addressing story retelling, sequencing, verbs, describing, following directions and more. 

Here are some of our favourite activities to do this time of year:

Activity #1: Begin with a Halloween themed book! The book "10 Trick-or-Treaters" is a great book to target themed vocabulary, plurals, following directions, sequencing, spatial concepts and more! Paired with play-props makes it an engaging way for students to participate in the activity while learning and practicing new skills. Grab the book companion HERE

Activity #2: It's time for the critter clinic! Both Anna and I LOVE using the critter clinic all year long as we adapt it for different themes and therapy sessions. Anna has made it super easy by creating an INCREDIBLE product that transforms your critter clinic into a haunted house! Have a blast going trick-or-treating with the provided play-prop pieces while targeting a variety of goals. Practice the spatial concepts "on", "in",  "beside" as you place monsters or candies around the critter clinic. You can also practice following directions and have the child listen to what costume kid they need to open a specific door (e.g., have the fairy open the jack-o-lantern door; use the orange key to open the orange door; first open the blue door then open the red door). These are two of TONNES of goals you can work on in this one activity...it may be the only additional activity you need! Grab the toy companion HERE

Activity #3: End your session with your own trick-or-treating! Hide pretend candies around the room and have the child go on a hunt to find them and add them to your sensory bin! Explore different textures and themed objects in your sensory bin while working on describing, themed vocab, basic concepts (e.g., big/small, spiky/smooth, etc.) and expanding utterances.
